Message from the president

The Database Society of Japan (DBSJ) was found on May 21, 2002, in order to introduce the activities on database of Japan to not only the country but also the world. Now in Japan, although IPSJ SIGDBS, IEICE SIGDE and SIGMOD-J are engaging in database researches and activities, DBSJ is founded to achieve the common purposes related to the three academic societies.

DBSJ mainly carries out the following activities:

(1) Publish the journal: DBSJ Letters
(2) Develop collaborative research programs
(3) Set and operate research societies for improving the researches on database of Japan
(4) Organize the annual meeting and publish the digital archive and the video streams of presentations
(5) Hold the general meeting
(6) Co-organize and co-sponse domostic and international database-related conferences and events
(7) Set and operate DBSJ awards
(8) Operate the membership mailing list (dbjapan) and DBSJ homepage (http://www.dbsj.org)

Fortunately, due to the outstanding lead of the fisrt president, Professor Yahiko Kambayashi (Kyoto University), DBSJ has been developing smoothly and rapidly since it was founded. Now, we have more than 500 members including regular members, student members and sponsor members. I have servered as the second president of DBSJ since 2003, and I think I am responsible for contributing to the database community of our country. Therefore, I hope more people join DBSJ.And I also wish everyone of you take active part in the events sponsored by DBSJ, through which you would develop yourself and succeed in your researches.
